SAT reflection

I thought it was pretty easy as far as the English section goes. I thought the math was incredibly difficult. The essay was not very hard (or so I think).

Critical Reading Notes

• half of the reading section
• not in order of difficulty
• usually in chronological order
• answer strategically
• don't read all passages

Duel Passage:

• sometimes a duel passage (compare and contrast 2)
• different opinions on one topic
• 1st answer questions on 1st passage and then second and then on the contrast
• read italics!
• order of questions (figure it out)
• read only what you have to

Question Types:

• line reference
• key word
• vocab in context (not the obvious answer)
• general questions 

Short Reading Notes

Brief paragraphs followed by questions
Sometimes 2 paired paragraphs followed by 3-4 questions
STEP 1: read questions first!
STEP 2: only read what you need to answer the questions

DIFFERENT QUESTION TYPES (DO IN THIS ORDER)

• Line Reference
• Vocab In Context (generally a word with multiple meanings)
• Inference (read between the lines)
• Main Idea 
• Argument (skip possibly)

PSATs

I thought the PSATs were a reasonable length. They could have been a little later so I was more awake. I actually had a sleepover the night before and got like no sleep but i still felt pretty prepared. I used the fill in the blank tricks. I forgot that you could skip some and I didn't skip any.

Sentence Completion Notes

•  First part of reading section is 7-8 per sentence
• Questions arranged in order of difficulty

1. Cover answer choices
2. Look for clue and put in a synonym of your own
3. Put in the words closes to the synonym
4. Use process of elimination 

• Go for harder answers toward the end of the test
• Half the sentence completions have 2 blanks 

ESSAY NOTES

• Essay section is first and takes 25 minutes 
• Write persuasively
• Present views on the broad topic
• Graded by two people (scores out of six)
• Worth 30% of "writing"
• Graders only read for 1-2 minutes
• Make it neat
• Answer question!
• Be organized
• Be specific with examples
• Check grammar
• Usually a variety of answers and responses to the essay
• You either: agree, agree with exceptions, disagree, disagree with exceptions
• Use transition words to begin body paragraphs 
• Conclusion: restate thesis
• 25 minute essay: first 5 brainstorm, 15 for the writing, 5 to check
• Intro, 2-3 Body, conclusion
• Grammar, spelling, style
